April Athlete Focus:  Jane Foley

What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?

I turned to CrossFit after trying many gyms and not getting results or feeling any better.  I tried a couple classes and was frozen in fear every time I went, but I leaned on Amanda over and over through texts and she kept me coming back! I come back to Torque day after day because I love the friends I have made and I walk out of there better than when I walked in.

What is your favorite thing about working out at Torque?

My favorite thing about working out at Torque is the attitude of everyone that goes there.  No one is left behind and everyone is there to help you succeed.

What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?

My absolute proudest accomplishment is being able to run.  When I started at Torque in 2012, I could not run around the building (around 200meters) and last year I ran a different 5K race every single Saturday.  My best time was 31 minutes!

What has been your biggest challenge?

My biggest challenge was probably returning to the gym after my husband John died.  My life had imploded, but the best decision was to get back to working out as that is the key to mental health.

What is your favorite CF movement to do?

My favorite movement is any kind of press (no squats ha-ha!).

What piece of advice would you give to someone who is looking to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?

My advice to people that want to try CrossFit is yes it is super uncomfortable in the beginning, but don’t quit, it gets better.
