On Monday I spent some time with my 93 year old Great Aunt. She lives on her own on a third floor apartment in senior housing. I would say for the most part she is physically and mentally with it. Which is pretty incredible for 93 years young.
My great Aunt is a woman who never smoked cigarettes growing up, and she WALKED everywhere! Her first 60 years of life were spent in Boston before she moved to Walpole. Since she lived in JP, she never needed to get her drivers license. She would take the bus or walk. She usually opted to walk, and she got REALLY efficient at it!
Flash forward to today, she gets outside and walks to the center of town to the library as much as she can, weather dependent. She brings her laundry down three floors, to the laundry and back twice a week. And on rainy days, she’ll walk up and down the three flights of stairs for movement.
What I’m reminded of by hanging with her on Monday …. treat your body well and it will return the favor as you age.
Keep moving your body.
Drink water every day.
Walk every day.
Eat your vegetables.
Strength train and increase your muscle NOW.
So that when we all are 93, we all can still walk up to our 3rd floor apartment building.
