Congrats Kristie on being Torque’s August Member of the Month!
Member Since: January 10th 2026
“The funnest part about coaching Kristie is watching her surprise herself. She started out in women’s strength and picked things up very smoothly from the beginning. Once she added in semi-private, her progress accelerated. There’s nothing I love more than handing her a heavier weight than she expected and watching her skepticism turn into acceptance. She may shake her head in disbelief but she keeps doing it. She is one strong mother!!”
– Coach Mary
Meet Kristie! I’m currently a stay at home mom and love to spend time with my two daughters and my husband. Yoga is a big part of my life and I prioritize a consistent practice for both my physical and mental health. I got my yoga teaching certification a few years ago and I love teaching kids yoga and mindfulness classes whenever I can.
What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join? I heard about the Women’s Strength Class and it sounded like a good place to try working out at a gym again. I hadn’t worked out at a gym since pre-pandemic days and was super nervous to start. I really wanted to find a place where I could work on my form and feel comfortable stepping into a gym again. CFT was the perfect place for that. Â
What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? The support from the whole community. From my very first class I felt really comfortable. It was so refreshing to see all different ages, abilities, and fitness levels working out together and just encouraging one another. No competition, no judgment, just support. From the women I’ve worked out with consistently each week, to the encouraging fist bump from a Group Class member who happened to see me working hard during my Semi-Private session, everyone just wants everyone to succeed. And of course, the coaches. They are all kind, encouraging, motivating, and super knowledgeable. I feel like they truly care about my goals and want me to succeed.Â
What is your proudest accomplishment thus far? Just trying new things overall. Before starting here I had never bench pressed before. I had never even picked up a barbell before. To me, those exercises and that equipment felt like they were reserved for really fit, strong athletes or people who go to the gym every day. And now, I’m using them and picking up weight I never could have imagined holding in my hands. It’s all really exciting and I’m not only proud of the strength I’ve gained, but what I’ve allowed myself the chance to try. Â
What has been your biggest challenge? The box and any kind of jumping. I am so afraid of falling and the box is something that feels really impossible to me at this point. But overall I guess my biggest challenge is getting out of my head. Accepting that I can do hard things and if I really want to improve I have to try and start small.Â
Do you have a favorite movement? I really love sled pushes!
What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet? Just give it a try. If you have a desire to exercise and get stronger in a gym setting, just give CFT a try. You just need to show up for yourself and then the community kind of takes over after that.Â
If you could have a superpower what would it be? Teleportation would be pretty amazing.Â
