You’ve probably heard of cortisol, often called the “stress hormone”.

Cortisol plays a key role in how your body responds to pressure, manages energy, and recovers from exertion.

Here’s the Problem: Most of us are stuck on overdrive. [shocking right?]

Due to things like chronic stress, poor sleep, or even overtraining, our cortisol levels are chronically high (or out of balance), which can lead to:

  • Insulin resistance and weight gain
  • Anxiety and mood swings
  • Hormonal imbalances
  • Poor recovery from workouts
  • Infertility and low libido

A well-functioning body should switch between fight-or-flight and rest-and-recovery modes.

When that balance breaks, cortisol stays elevated, and your nervous system doesn’t get the signal to calm down. Do you think your balance is off? Could be …

One thing that can help: focusing in on your sleep quality and quantity, and building in HIIT and SIIT style workouts.

In terms of sleep, check out our blog post on how to get your sleep back on track.
