Congrats Keith on being Torque’s March Member of the Month!

“Keith ‘It’s pronounced Dee El’ is always here for whatever challenge is up next.  With a welcoming ‘Hey Coach’, he carries with him an upbeat outlook during every class and is always willing to slow down and focus on the small stuff when asked.  Whether he’s first to finish, or last, his enthusiasm for supporting others in group class never relents.  As a faithful 6am’er, you can always find him personally attacking the Assault Bike for time, but then regretting it moments later. He has embraced our community and our mission with open arms, and now, with a consistent below parallel squat.”

Meet Keith! I’m half British & half Swiss by birth, and was born in Johannesburg, South Africa. My dad’s job had us moving every three to four years, so after South Arica we moved to India, America, Italy, France and Portugal. I came to the states for college, and they moved around a few times more before retiring in South Carolina!

What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join? I needed a change. I have a good CrossFit setup at home, but wasn’t motivated to work out and my equipment was collecting dust. I’ll be two years in this summer!

What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? Hands down the community. I went to an awesome CrossFit back when I lived in Minneapolis and wanted to find something like that again. I tried another local area place first, and it fell way short… Torque has ended up being exactly what I was looking for!

What is your proudest accomplishment so far? Feeling fitter, stronger & healthier than I felt 5 years ago.

What has been your biggest challenge? My shoulders. I’ll blame it on sitting at a desk from 9-5 for the past few decades. Working on it with stretching, but they are still a big struggle!

Do you have a favorite movement? Deadlift all day! SO close to beating my 12 year ago self 1-rep max!

What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet? CrossFit today, and especially at Torque, is not the stereotype that exists out there. Torque is the perfect example of a community first, non-competitive gym that caters to the individual and what they want to achieve. It doesn’t matter where you are in your fitness journey – there’s an option for everyone, during every workout.  

If you could have a superpower what would it be? Time travel!
