Congrats Gianna on being Torque’s September Member of the Month!

Member Since: May 9th 2024

Gianna is one of the smartest people I knowand I really love working alongside her as a coach. One of my favorite things about Gianna is how well she can help people with all of their different needs because she has so much knowledge, patience, and heart. She’s great at coming up with modifications on the fly and always seems to have something new for people to try. She’s constantly learning and growing both as a person and as a coach, because she genuinely cares about being the best she can be and helping others in the best way possible.
– Coach Vanessa

Meet Gianna! Something members may not know about me is that I started coaching seven years ago, before I was even old enough to drive myself to work. I’ve also worked as a clinical exercise physiologist, combining exercise prescription with recovery and rehabilitation following cardiac events. Outside of the gym, I love to cook and recently started baking sourdough!

What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join? The community and the coaching staff. It seemed like a great fit because I could bring my own knowledge and skills to the coaching staff while also learning so much from the other coaches. Being surrounded by coaches with different experiences, perspectives, and areas of expertise helps me become a better coach!

What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? One of my favorite things about Torque is getting to work with so many different walks of life. Between Group Classes, teens, injury rehabilitation clients, sport specific athletes, ForeverFit, Semi-Private, and personal training, I get to work with such a wide range of people. I really love that I’m able to work with anyone and everyone and get to truly know our members.

What is your proudest accomplishment thus far? Developing a coaching style that allows me to apply my knowledge of exercise science every day while also forcing me to constantly think, analyze, and learn. There is always more to learn, and I love that coaching continually challenges me to look at training from different perspectives. Getting to watch someone accomplish something they’ve really worked toward is one of my favorite parts of coaching.

What has been your biggest challenge? I don’t know if I have one specific “biggest challenge.” I think one of the things I’ve had to learn throughout my career is that there isn’t always one right answer. Coaching requires a lot of critical thinking and being willing to look at the same problem from different perspectives.

Do you have a favorite movement? My favorite movement is a split jerk, and I always love a good box jump over!

What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet? Give yourself some time to get comfortable with the movements and the environment. You don’t have to know what you’re doing when you walk in, and you don’t have to be good at everything right away. Most importantly, trust your body. It is capable of so much more than you think!

If you could have a superpower what would it be? The ability to instantly learn anything. I’d love to be able to pick up a new skill or subject and just instantly know it.
