December 2020 Member Focus: Viktoria Stockman

Torque Member since August 2020!

“After coaching Viktoria, at a recently added time slot of 7:00 AM on Monday morning, I see that she welcomes feedback and strives to get her form dialed in, which is proving to be key in her successes at Torque. Viktoria’s squat snatch (a notoriously difficult movement) and her CrossFit Total lifts were both a testament to this!”

-Coach Merrr, December 14, 2020.

I am Armenian, born and raised in Sochi, a city in southern Russia. And despite what some think, there are no bears that walk the streets of this city 😉 Over the years I have moved several times, living in New York and Iowa for 18 years.  I have a 24 year old son. Over the past 16 years, I have had the honor to work with survivors of domestic violence/sexual assault.  My work is truly rewarding!

Over the weekends, I love to run, hike, take in a bike ride, garden in my yard, spend time to pickle/pack different foods,  love to entertain and cook for friends and family. And my true love is to travel – I have yet to ski or ice skate, however.

*What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?

What made me want to join CrossFit Torque was the atmosphere, the knowledge of the coaches, the welcome I received from the crew and other athletes.

*What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day?

The things that make me want to come back to Torque is the personalized approach that each coach take with each individual athlete –  It’s like a having a private coach for each class.  Each coach has a wonderful approach to each member with the impressive knowledge to adjust workouts depending on one’s abilities.

*What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?

My proudest moment thus far has been the box jump in my first session – I never ever imagined I could do such a thing!!!  I was SO excited (and surprised)!!

*What has been your biggest challenge?

At this point, my greatest challenge is that my head is thinking one thing and my body another – I need to be more in sync with trusting my ability to successfully complete a movement and not to over think it.

*What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?

It is not what you may think it is! I had walked into CrossFit Torque for the first time, scared that I may be pushed beyond my comfort and just told what to do! Boy, I was so wrong – it is nothing like that!

The coach is there to help, critique, guide, modify and assist in each movement, during the strength and the workouts. As mentioned before, it is similar to having a personal trainer for 50 minutes!  The coaches encourage the athlete; they do not push them over.

I do not feel judged, in fact I feel supported and inspired as fellow members cheer each other on!!

*If you could have a super power what would it be?

My super power probably would to entice people be more kind to each other. Thank you Amanda – a beautiful question.

Facing one’s fear is truly a gift!  I did and I could not be happier with my choice. I am absolutely more confident, stronger and happier! Thank you CrossFit Torque!
