Oct Athlete Focus: Linda

Linda first joined us on January 29, 2016 and has been a gem to coach since day one! Her dedication to attending 3 or more times a week is evident in her metabolic capacity to surpass athletes thirty years younger than her! Read more about Linda’s journey the past 9 months!
Linda’s for advice to give to people wanting to try CrossFit:

“My honest answer is too-fold – be the commercial and just do it.  My advice to anyone just walking in….You are going to see around you some amazing people doing some amazing things.  60 year olds climbing ropes.  20 year olds lifting impressive amounts of weights.  Remember that they all started somewhere and you’ll never get to where you want to be if you don’t show up.  And these incredible people are super supportive and nice with families and regular jobs.”

1) What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?  I spent 12 years in Boston working out with the same group of people.  We motivated each other and made sure we all showed up for our daily workouts.  When I retired, I looked for a group environment (I hate to work out by myself) and after 5 months of trying different options I discovered CrossFit Torque.
2) What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? Coach Amanda and the other members.  They work out hard!!  It’s encouraging to know that whatever age and fitness level you step through the door with, you are given great instruction and your fellow members are very encouraging.  The workouts are well thought out and challenging…. always!
3) What is your favorite thing about working out at Torque?  Without a doubt – the CrossFit Torque community is my favorite thing. They encourage me with their own hard work – Val especially!
4) What has been your biggest challenge?  The Olympic weight lifting moves. – every single one.  But to Coach Jake’s credit, he told me to give it a year before I became comfortable.  He was right.
5) What is your favorite CF movement to do?  The burpee – Not sure whether it’s a CrossFit move, but I love the burpee!
6) What is your proudest accomplishment thus far? I’ll be 62 in less than a month.  Walking through the door, not caring about age and giving it 100%[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

“The needs of the elderly and professional athletes vary by degree, not kind. Where one needs functional competency to maintain independence, the other needs functional mastery to maintain dominance. Improved hip capacity will help a pro ball player’s throw to first; it will also reduce the chances of grandpa falling in the tub. The squat is the perfect tool for both.”
– Founder of CrossFit, Greg Glassman
