Tell us about you! What’s something that other members may not know about you? Some of your hobbies or favorite things to do. 

I grew up in Central Mass and went to college at WPI in Worcester. After a 3-year stint in Baltimore, MD for work, I came back to Massachusetts to be closer to my friends, family, and the amazing New England fall. During the week, I work at an engineering consulting firm as a fire protection and life safety engineer. I have travelled to military installations in Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and Ghana for work, and worked on a bunch of other design projects around the world and in the US. When I am not working, I love with my dog Hammy and boyfriend Matt either doing projects and trying new recipes at home, or planning hangouts with my friends. 

What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?

I have had weight and body image issues basically forever. During the COVID lockdown, I had gained weight yet again and was struggling with some mental health. I was looking for a gym to help me get my strength and health back, with a hopeful added bonus of meeting some people in the area to keep me accountable. 

What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? 

The people, hands-down! I have definitely loved (most of) the workouts, and the feeling of getting stronger and healthier each time I finish a WOD. But getting to do that with an amazing group of people that cheer you on and genuinely care about you is priceless. CrossFit Torque has become such a huge part of my life, that I convinced Amanda & Sara to hire me! I work as the Client Success Manager and am coaching a couple of classes this summer!

What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?

Honestly, I love every time SugarWOD (the workout tracker) tells me I am awesome for doing a new workout, or “beating my score” from a repeat one. But the biggest accomplishment has been my mindset change. The coaching and support at CFT as helped me have a much healthier relationship with food and my body. 

What has been your biggest challenge?

There is always at least one movement that seems juuuust out of reach. Currently, I am trying to work on my strength to be able to get that first kipping pull-up!

Do you have a favorite movement?

Love almost anything with a barbell, especially squats and deadlifts!

What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?

Join! You will gain so so much more than just a gym membership! There is something for every one, no matter your age or where you are starting. The coaches and other athletes are there to support you every step of the way!
