“You couldn’t have asked for a better addition to our CrossFit Torque community than Sue. She always has a smile on her face and never fails to show her great sense of humor when she’s in class.”
Tell us about you! My name is Sue “SCAR-CELLA” (where the second C is definitely NOT silent)…lol Sara What’s something that other members may not know about you? I am engineered with an inquisitive mind. I often find opportunities to test myself and to take me out of my comfort zone (Possibly why I love challenges so much). These opportunities allow me to learn so much more about myself and what my limitations are so I can work on them to be a better human (and athlete). Some of your hobbies or favorite things to do. The only time I truly relax is when I’m sitting on a beach. That is by far my favorite place to be. In my spare time I enjoy DIY projects, cooking, networking and of course fitness. I also really enjoy being with my family. Funny story…My husband and I met in a ski shop where he worked and I was looking to buy a ski rack for my car. This guy Ned (who some of you know from CFT) sold me all the wrong parts and I had to go back to the shop where my now husband, spent all day pulling together all the right parts so I could successfully attach skis to the roof of my car. What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join? I moved to Foxboro in 2011, and when my last CrossFit gym changed their class hours, I felt it was the perfect opportunity to get my workout in just a little closer to home so I could spend more quality time with my family. I’ve known Amanda and Meridian for years, and decided it should be my next CrossFit “home” – especially since they welcomed with me with open arms. I knew its where I was meant to be. What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day? The coaches; the WODs; the cleanliness of the gym; the community, & the budding friendships (of course). I feel like I fit in here 🙂 And/or favorite thing about CFT? Without a doubt, the community is my favorite thing. It’s a safe space to unwind from the stresses of the day – but I also know i’m going to get in a great workout. It just makes me happy. What is your proudest accomplishment thus far? I have felt comfortable enough to push myself in the WODs. But my proudest thus far is, FINALLY understanding the mechanics of double- unders has been amazing! I still have a lot of practicing to do, but I can say that I can do more than 1 DUB. The workshop with Molly was so much fun and I got so much out of it! What has been your biggest challenge? Definitely counting reps, keeping track of my AMRAPs without a board, or simply adding plates to know how much weight i’m moving…lol My biggest challenge has been that I overthink EVERYTHING and the longer i think about it – the easier it is for me to get in my own head. Since joining CFT, I have been encouraged and reminded that I can do these things, and IF I feel off about it, it’s ok to take a step back from it and find an alternative. Do you have a favorite movement? To name just one favorite doesn’t seem fair… but it would be anything that involves rowing, deadlifts, and maybe a kettlebell… What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet? I keep trying to convince my husband to try it…… but I would say to others: Give it a fair shot. Be patient with yourself as not everyone is at the same level, but everyone started with a day 1. If you could have a super power what would it be? MATH. Anything else you’d like to share! I joined just before quarantine, but I’d like to add that this gym has been my solace during isolation. I so am grateful for that. I’m usually at the gym 5 or 6 days a week. You can find me (mainly) in the 6pm class – maybe the 9:30AM Friday class… (7 or 8AM on Saturdays) |
