“Cathy is so enjoyable to coach. She focuses on the detail of every instruction and movement. She is so appreciative and grateful. She gets very excited when she has an “ah ha” moment and something clicks or makes sense in her body. You can tell she really enjoys her time at Torque. She’s super smiley and brings so much joy to class!” -ForeverFit Coach Vanessa
Meet Cathy! I retired this year and finally have free time to choose what I want to do. After being diagnosed with Osteoporosis, I became afraid to move, fearing that I would hurt myself or fracture. I saw an advertisement for ForeverFit and thought it might be something that could really help me regain my confidence and my strength. Right from the start, it was the best decision I have made since my diagnosis.
I instant messaged CFT and was impressed with how quickly Amanda got back to me. I love her answer regarding understanding my condition and agreed to a Meet and Greet. I wanted to cancel, because I am NOT a gym person at all. But, knowing I had to take a step forward I agreed to a 15 minute meeting and could not have been more impressed. Everyone, including staff and members were welcoming from the time I walked through the door! The feeling there was very different than anything I had ever experienced and I felt comfortable immediately.
Fast forward, as I approach six months, and CFT and ForeverFit has exceeded my expectations. CFT has helped me learn to focus on “what I CAN do” vs. “what I can’t do!” It has also helped me discover how important it is to trust my own instincts and to open my mind and really listen to what others say. CFT goes above and beyond to let you know that YOU are important to them and that they, in return, are more than readily available to help you with your specific needs. They give you plenty to think about and that goes hand in hand without adding any pressure into doing something that does not feel right for you!
Every time I enter the gym , even on the days I feel like I just can’t do it for whatever reason…the class begins…I’m helped believe that I can do anything I put my mind to…and before long I am so happy to be there and always feel better than when I arrived. It is the best feeling ever!
What are some of your hobbies or favorite things to do? I love walking in the woods , working with a program called Wellness with Horses, and bike riding. I am also learning how to take care of beehives. CFT has given me confidence to conquer my fear of bees and be able to work with them and learn how fascinating they are! And, working with large animals and on a farm takes lots of strength. I find all my chores getting much easier with much less pain since joining CFT.
What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join? The welcoming atmosphere right from day one! The genuine feel of concern my health and wellbeing was very evident. They asked me about ME! I was afraid that I would be put on the spot to make a commitment or to sign an agreement right away and nothing could have been further than the truth. CFT helped me feel that they could really help me with my goals and that they would love to have me there, but there was NO pressure at all. That was very different from what I had experienced at other gyms.
What is your favorite thing about CFT? The supportive coaches and members that encourage and educate us and really listen to what is right for us as individuals! Everyone works really hard and encourages each other to be better! The genuine feeling that the coaches want to see you succeed is very fulfilling.
What is your proudest accomplishment thus far? Feeling stronger all over, emotionally and physically. This feeling is helping me with my self confidence and I find myself less afraid now to try new things. I am moving through my day feeling stronger at everything and feeling considerable less pain in my back and joints. Overall, I just feel happier adding something that is really FUN and healthy at the same time! I look forward to each workout!
What has been your biggest challenge? The biggest challenge was taking the first step and making initial contact. I wish I had known how easy that would be. There was NO pressure. Listening to my body and understanding a good, healthy “workout sore” vs pain from injury was another challenge and with the help of the coaches, I’ve learned to really listen, learn and let the fear go!
Do you have a favorite movement? I LOVE all the movements and the best part is that they are always presented in new ways and mixed up. This way…I NEVER FEEL BORED! It is a perfect blend of warm up with stretches, strength, balance. Mobility and agility! Exactly what my age group needs in order to stay active and agile!
What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet? Believe it wholeheartedly that everyone there is there help! They listen and modify everything to your needs. There is no pressure and you will be amazed at how fun it is! It’s like getting off the bleachers and getting back into the game and more you look at it as FUN, the better you get and you actually start feeling like a kid again!
If you could have a super power what would it be? I would find a way to gather all the people who are lonely (especially after COVID) and find them a group like ForeverFit to join and let them see that they are capable of getting better no matter what their age is!
