From our first meeting via zoom about nutrition, Katie was all in. She has been incredibly consistent with attendance, always arriving at 6am with a smile (and of course, her partner in crime, Jared), and takes ALLLLL the cues with eagerness. She is always looking to improve with the time she has in class. She brings a warm and uplifting vibe to Torque, mixed in with a great sense of humor.” -Coach Sara

Meet Katie! I’m a mom of 3 – ages 8, 11, and 12 – and I love spending time with them and my husband.  I like reading, watching movies, travelling, skiing, and being a cheerleader for any of their activities (soccer, theater, music, etc.).  I grew up skiing and one of my favorite joys is being able to see my kids skiing on the same trails I skied on as a kid.

Why did I join Torque? I’d been wanting to try CrossFit for a while now and was able to talk my husband into trying it out in early fall.  We started working out together during COVID and have been keeping it up since!  We’re apart most of the day so working out together gives us some extra time – we also like the friendly competition! This summer, the options at home started getting a bit boring so I mentioned CrossFit and we decided to check it out.  I was looking at CrossFit Torque and a friendly face (another mom from my son’s soccer team) was on the website so I asked her recommendation and she sold us! Once we reached out, Amanda was so quick to return our call and encourage us immediately – it really felt like a great community to join.

What keeps me coming back?  I love working out in the mornings and the morning crew and coaches are great! By the time I get to work, I feel like I’ve already had a “win” for the day – a good workout and some friendly conversation.

Some of my accomplishments: Handstands! It’s silly, but I couldn’t remember the last time I had done a handstand – let alone try it in front of a crew of people.  I anxiously gave it a try and was pleasantly surprised.

Some of my challenges: Haha a lot! Learning the language, proper technique, and what weights to use.  It isn’t second nature to me!  The coaches are very patient and willing to help!  Hopefully it will sink in soon!

My favorite movement: I like anything on the rig.  It’s challenging but also fun and not something I have done before.

Advice for anyone that is hesitant to start CrossFit: Every move in a workout can be tailored to so many ability levels so everyone can do it.  Also, the community is really welcoming and very positive – everyone celebrates each other’s achievements in big or small ways!

What would be my ideal superpower? Teleport!  I’m typically 5 minutes late to everything because I always try and fit one more thing in.  Being able to teleport would be great.  Also travel, commuting, and visiting family would be much quicker and less expensive!
