“Dena has been at Torque since she was 14, starting in our Teens classes and then moving into the adult Group Classes. It has been amazing watching her grow as a person, athlete, and member! It will be exciting to see her continue to grow. She will always have a home at Torque!”

Meet Dena! I like running and being outside and checking out new places in Boston and in other cities.Â
Why did I join Torque? Originally I was looking for off-season training for soccer and had heard about CrossFit at school. Really glad I ended up finding such a great group of coaches and athletes at Torque!
What keeps me coming back? Definitely the sense of community and inclusivity. Everyone has their strengths and weaknesses when it comes to different movements and workouts, and the coaches and other athletes are always supportive about different movement options so everyone can tackle a workout at their personal level, whether or not it be their favorite WOD or strength that day. Plus, the Questions of the Week, Friday Bright Spot, and other Torque events throughout the year (like the Open and more!) are a great way to stay connected to the community.
Some of my accomplishments: It’s hard to define one moment – I would say overall I’m proud of how I’ve grown since starting CrossFit in 2014. It was great to start off in the Teen Classes with fellow athletes and eventually transition to the adult Group Classes.
Some of my challenges: Sometimes getting out of bed for the early morning classes can be the biggest challenge, but once I’m up and at the gym I’m always glad I came!
My favorite movement: Rope climbs! Daunting at first for sure, but I have grown to love them.
Advice for anyone that is hesitant to start CrossFit: Come try it out! Torque is not your “stereotypical CrossFit gym” – it’s better! All athlete levels and ages are welcome to work out at their pace, and push themselves individually, rather than competing against everyone else in the room.Â
What would be my ideal superpower? Being able to speak/understand all languages.
