Congrats Karen!

“Karen started with us a couple months ago, looking for community, accountability, and to just feel good again! I love seeing Karen walk in because she always has a big smile on her face that is so contagious. Despite being nervous and hesitant to join classes at first, she has made amazing progress in the short time she has been here and fits right in! So happy you found Torque, Karen :)”

Meet Karen! ย I grew up in Connecticut, spent several years in Rhode Island after college, and now live in Foxboro, MA with my wife and our two dogs. I love the beach, hiking, traveling to new places, and making memories with my nieces and nephews on what we call our โBest Day Everโ adventures. I also love bright colors, so youโll usually see me wearing homemade tie-dyes. ย
Why did I join Torque?ย I needed a gym that would hold me accountable – I stumbled upon CrossFit Torque while searching online and was drawn in by the welcoming, confidence-building reviews. Before reading those, my idea of CrossFit was vague and intimidating – something I didnโt think I could ever physically do. The reviews encouraged me to sign up for a โNo-Sweat Introโ session, and Iโm so glad Iย did!!!!
What keeps me coming back?ย I know I havenโt been at Torque very long, but it trulyย is an incredible place! Itโs a great vibe, both because of the coaches and members. Everyone is at different skill levels, and even when Iโm doing a scaled version of a movement, I feel like Iโm fully participating and getting a great workout. I was honestly nervous at first that I would need too many modifications and might be a distraction or take away from others in the class. Itโs amazing how well the coaches work with everyone to ensure each person is supported and challenged. Plus, itโs fun to try and do things I never would have attempted on my own!
Some of my accomplishments: I started the On-Ramp program at the beginning of June, and I think my proudest accomplishment so far has been noticing an increase in my stamina. The other day, I was running during a warmup and caught myself thinking, โoh, this feels a little better than it did a few weeks ago.โ Itโs those small but noticeable improvements that make me proud and motivated to keep going.
Some of my challenges: My biggest challenge is the Hang Power Clean and Push Jerk. When I see it, it looks like something I should be able to do, and I get frustrated that I canโt properly execute it.ย Ironically, itโs also one of my favorite movements!
Advice for anyone that is hesitant to start CrossFit: My advice for someone hesitant to start CrossFit is to just take the first step and show up. Everything can be scaled to your level, and the coaches and community will meet you where you are and help you get where you want to be.ย
What would be my ideal superpower? Teleportation – so I could get wherever I want to be, exactly when I want to be there.
