“Erin used to be my high school guidance counselor back in the day! I’m glad she joined so I could have the opportunity to help her as she helped me! Still tough not to call her ‘Ms. Healy’ hahaha!”- ”

I am a wife and mother of two awesome girls ages 7 & 5. I have been a high school guidance counselor for 14 years and this year I will be dividing my time between guidance counselor and social worker. I am also the freshman girls’ basketball coach. I love that every day my job brings me new challenges. I enjoy working with teens and helping them navigate this ever changing world. My hobbies would include outdoor activities like biking and hiking…does eating ice cream count as a hobby?! A lot of my personal goals are physical like conquering pull-ups, rope climb and double unders, and I would like to run more obstacle races. The most important thing is that I want to be a good role model for my own kids and the kids I work with and coach. If I can make a positive impact on someone’s life, I feel like I’m on the right track. Oh, and I want to own a log cabin one day:)
After watching the CrossFit games I had an interest in joining, but was a little intimidated. I have played team sports all my life, but it’s been a while. I’ve tried working out on my own, but I was missing that competitive spirit and push I get when I’m around other athletes. I reached out to Amanda and she assured me that it would be a good fit. Even though I couldn’t walk for a couple of days after all the squats I did on my free session, I couldn’t wait to come back!
It’s so many things, the coaches are awesome, the people I have met are great and the workouts are never the same. After I get home and think about what I just accomplished I can’t help but look forward to what I will do next time. Also, my 5am crew holds me accountable!
The atmosphere. The coaches are so helpful and take the time to break down the movements. There’s also always something to look forward to, like different events and challenges you can be a part of. And again, the other athletes are super friendly and encouraging. It’s a great community of people.
Hmmm…getting Jake to call me Erin instead of Ms. Healy!:) But seriously, I’ve been a member for a little over a year and I think every time I’m in the gym I accomplish something that I didn’t think I could. I’m moving faster, becoming more flexible and just feel better overall. More specifically, I would say that I was pretty psyched when I was able to do my first 20” box jump!
I don’t have double unders yet, but I have done a couple. More practice and hopefully I’ll be able to string them together. Also, pull ups. That’s another goal for this year.
I’d probably have to say deadlifts. That’s definitely the lift I feel most confident with.
Don’t be intimidated. Just go for it. The coaches are great about scaling the WODs to accommodate every athlete. It’s not just a gym, it’s a community. The coaches care and want to help you achieve your goals, whether it’s a workout or nutrition. It’s a great place to meet people who will motivate you and want to see you succeed.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_gallery interval=”5″ images=”24646,24647,24648″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row]
