Having Brian in class is a guarantee for some rockin’ dad-jokes! For real though, Brian is an absolute pleasure in class. Even though Brian can handle a lot of the higher skilled movements, and he’s a strong guy – he still knows when to scale down a workout appropriately. He’s a great influencer and leader in class. We are lucky to have him as a member and Coach!

I live in Wrentham with my wife, Donna and our 3 daughters, our son and our dog & cat along with yard full of squirrels. I met my wife at Boston University back in the summer of 1985 (the weekend of LiveAid), married in 1992 and moved to Wrentham in 1995. We always seem to have some sort of project going on at home, from installing hardwood floors to building a patio. When I have free time, I like to CrossFit at Torque.
I joined CrossFit Torque through a recommendation since my old gym closed – and now I know why!! From day one, I have always felt welcomed and knew that this place was special and with an environment that was different from what I was used to. I found a huge variety of athletes at Torque and I enjoy each and every one – ages from the younger to the matured. No ‘heavy’ attitudes, like ‘I am better than you’. And the coaching team – a professional group of talented instructors that focus on how to develop the athlete, celebrate their wins and work on improving what one may lack.
What has kept me coming back again and again to Torque is the inspiring community and the people that make it up – athletes, coaches and staff. No matter how your day is going, you will be welcomed and challenged at each class – maybe even hear a bad Dad joke or two! Need help pushing through those last few wall balls – someone will be there supporting you. The best part – that high five or fist bump after you’ve given it your all.
My grandest accomplishment thus far here at Torque is at 54 years old, I feel that I’m in the best shape of my life. I have the ability to do a handstand (for a few seconds), and I have completed 1 ring muscle up – it’s a start. I’m also very proud of taking the plunge and becoming a coach and continuing down that road of growth and development.
In my opinion, the movements that I enjoy the most are anything gymnastic based and barbells, but my ultimate favorite, if I had to pick just one, I’d say burpees – to me, I really respect the concept of no equipment needed, great for conditioning and it’s a very simple gauge of an individual fitness.
The best piece of advice that I could possible give one that is debating to come on board here at Torque — Don’t hesitate, just jump in – safely! We aren’t all going to the Games. We aren’t all throwing super heavy weights overhead. We are working to improve as individuals and do this in a community that supports one another and can challenge one another. Come and be part of a community, get a good workout in for YOU and the dividends will pay off!!
I love this – superpower!!! Since, I have a fear of heights, this may sound strange, but flying would be my superpower – might make pull-ups easier, too.
