“Since coming to Torque, Nicole has been a consistent 5am athlete. She brings an upbeat outlook and steady intensity to the early morning community. She is always willing to try something new, loves to push hard, and absorbs every cue that she is given. Her goal is to get a little better each and every day, even if that path requires her to take smaller, more intentional steps. She is fantastic to coach, and a valued and welcomed addition to our community.” – Coach Sara
What are some of your favorite things to do?
I am a huge foodie! While my husband and I are constantly exploring and trying new restaurants, some of my favorite food is made right at home. It is hard to say whether I enjoy cooking or baking more, because both are equally gratifying. Not to mention, I am usually doing both at the same time. You will frequently find me concocting a new treat/snack/meal for my daughter. Today it was Pumpkin Oatmeal Squares with Chia Seeds. While I will look at a lot of recipes for ideas, I rarely follow them. Typically I walk into my pantry and look around until an idea sparks, then I get to work creating and perfecting delicious (typically health conscious) treats or meals. And if I am not busy creating, I am sure to be planning the next get together with family or friends. Sous vide prime rib anyone? Maybe it is the Italian side of me, but feeding people is a true joy. Come over anytime, there is sure to be something fresh, healthy, and ready to eat!
What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?
My relationship with CrossFit started during Covid, and I was very quickly hooked. I knew I wanted to return postpartum, but being new to the area I was not sure where it would be. Being a physical therapist, I saw value in what CFT was offering vs. the typical box. I was impressed by the time and attention CFT invests in each member learning proper form and technique. And coming back after a significant hiatus, I knew I would need that guidance.
Quite simply – if you’re not challenged, you’re not changing. I love having a “day before my day” which is why 5 am is always my preference – an hour of “me time” to conquer a challenge and know I am changing. The people are pretty awesome too 🙂
What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?
I am not sure I have just one. Anytime I move the needle strength wise, it feels awesome. Is there anything better than being strong / getting stronger? Anything with the barbell typically feels pretty badass. Lifting heavy has always been equally enjoyable and rewarding to me.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Learning to accept becoming a new and different athlete. I am not who I was a few years back – and that is okay (though occasionally frustrating). Focusing on the progress being made today helps ward off reminiscing about the past.
What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?
Take your time. Work on quality over quantity. Don’t be afraid to push yourself and enjoy the process!
If you could have a super power what would it be?
Speed like The Flash. There is never enough time in the day, so being able to accomplish things faster would be amazing!
