I have 3 kiddos, ages 6, 4, and 2 that keep me pretty busy. I love to run distance; my 6 and 4 year olds are great on their bikes so on nice (weekend) days, I’ll go for runs as they bike beside me. We get outside as much as possible! You can usually find us at a local playground on our bikes, on a walk, or kicking the soccer ball around.

A fun fact, I’m a vegetarian and been that way more than half my life. No meat or fish. I went vegan 3 different times for a few months at a time in the past 6 years. All due to my infants and diary allergies — all is well now though! Oh, did I mention, Jon, the husband… he is there too!

What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?

Winter was approaching and I knew I couldn’t spend a few months on a treadmill — it’s boring. I heard so many things about CrossFit that made me interested. While I was living in North Carolina, my roommate attended classes and tried to get me to join, but I was working part time at a Globo Gym and it came with a free membership so I stayed put. Fast forward, I moved back to MA and my then boyfriend, now husband, moved to Walpole. I checked out a couple local CrossFit gyms, but CrossFit Torque was the most personable/nicest one. I tried a class one night and signed up right after!

What has kept you coming back to CrossFit Torque day after day?

Definitely the people. Everyone here provides a powerful combo of support, motivation, accountability, laughs, life advice, and even some healthy competition.

What is your favorite thing about CFT?

The variety of the workouts and the interactions with the coaches and members. Even at 5am, everyone is smiling and happy.

What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?

I’m torn to say CrossFit through 3 pregnancies, or coming back after back surgery. However, with a 6, 4, and 2 year old my nights aren’t always silent and the amount of sleep is very south of 8 hours. With that, I’d have to say it’s consistently coming in at 5am a few days a week.

What has been your biggest challenge?

Coming back after back surgery. I never want that pain again and although CrossFit had nothing to do with how I landed in the OR – I was timid upon my return, and believe I’ve gotten better since day 1, but packing on the weights continues to scare me. It’s a mental thing now, not physical. Mind over matter!

Do you have a favorite movement?

Burpees, running, and bar muscle ups. In college my soccer coach used to tell me, “the quicker you run, the sooner you’re done.”

What piece of advice would you give to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?

I constantly try to convince my husband to come along with me. Here is what I tell him…. Don’t worry where you are at or what you can or cannot do. The coaches are absolutely amazing and can help alter movements to your comfort, but also challenge you in the best way. I also tell him, no one is staring at you, we are all here being the best version of ourselves. And with a wink, I let him know – well if someone watching it’s because you’re looking good!

If you could have a super power, what would it be?

Super speed! It can help in bad situations, help get to a destination quicker, help change those stinky diapers fast, get dinner made quicker, etc.. To put it simply – super speed would give me more time for the fun of life. And you know winning some road races is just an added bonus.
