“Colleen is every Coach’s dream!  She always positive, comes in each day ready for anything and does it with a smile. She has made steady improvements with her mobility, and has really focused her efforts on bulletproofing her squat!  She has been with for almost 10 years, and we hope to have her with us for 10 more!”

Hi! I’m Colleen, will be 52 next week, and joined CFT in 2012.

I work as a Special Education Coordinator in Boston Public Schools. I have worked for BPS for 28 years as a special education teacher and IEP coordinator. Love my job! My husband Sean and I have been married for 22 years and our daughter Allie is 14. My husband and I met through mutual friends and it took 8 months for me to say yes to a date. Our daughter participated in the Torque Teen class this summer and loved it! What you may not know about me is I choose a marker color for my dry erase board that matches my outfit and never use red. I also believe the little drink umbrellas are there to shade your beverage from melting and not decorative 🙂

I joined CrossFit Torque because I have always exercised (gyms, boot camps, yoga) and was looking for something different in 2012. Over the years, I learned that group and individual training is best for me. I researched CrossFit near me and found Torque. I joined after my demo class. CrossFit Torque was a perfect fit for what I was looking for and a great group of people! What I love about CFT are the coaches, owners, members, and community. I enjoy that we start as a group and then individually work on skills, movements, techniques, and then come back together as a group for the WOD (Workout of the Day). My favorite thing about CFT is when you get individual time with the coach to discuss technique, the goal for the WOD, and modifications. The coaches are superb in leading a group and at the time make you feel like you are getting one-to-one attention! At Torque, I have never felt judged by the coaches or members. It’s quite the opposite- very supportive, cheering each other on, and positivity! I am proud of getting consistent double unders, and my overall technique is improving in many of the movements. I am proud that I am committed and look forward to working out. I had to take some time off due to my family schedule, and am proud that I missed Torque! I knew I would come back and be proud that I did. Sometimes when one has a break in their routine or schedule, it’s hard to get back to it, but I was always looking forward to returning to Torque!

My biggest challenge is getting mean with the bar. I’m not a competitive person and at times too kind and not aggressive enough. Gotta put some more grit in lifting! Nonetheless, I am enjoying the deadlift because of the technique, breath, and “hinge at the hips” that all goes into it….a lot of the movements are my favs because of what I am learning about myself as an athlete. I can see and feel how my technique, breath, speed, posture improves each movement. My advice to someone who might be hesitant to start CrossFit is to erase the comments or rumors that you may have heard or read that CrossFit is hard, crazy, have to PR, and it’s judgy. It’s the opposite. In my almost 10 years, I have always found the CrossFit Torque coaches and fellow athletes to be kind, fun, supportive, and challenge you in the best positive way! CrossFit Torque coaches and fellow athletes quickly become your friends and in every class, we have a great time laughing, lifting, and cheering each other on!

If I had a superpower I would fly….fly to travel, avoid traffic, and fly away when Coach Sara walks over to me during push-ups 🙂
