Nov Athlete Focus: Meg

Meg first joined us on May 18, 2016 and has been working hard ever since! Her dedication to attending 4 or more times a week is evident in her progress with all of her lifts! She comes in early to row, practice her double-unders, and will always crush the after party. She’s game for any type of workout, especially when she has a solo class (come on 7am’ers!)
Meg’s Advice to anyone wanting to Try CrossFit:

“If you’re interested in lifting, just walk through the door and try a class. There are many misconceptions about the CrossFit environment. My mom, like most people, thinks CrossFit is loud and competitive with unmanageable workouts for beginners. Those misconceptions could not be farther from the truth. Come in with an open mind and you’ll find the community is worth joining!”

Meg is currently completing her Master’s in Accounting at Northeastern University and will be graduating December 15th! She is excited to start her first full time job as a Tax Accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in January.
1) What was it about CrossFit Torque that made you want to join?
The location mostly but I also heard some great reviews from friends.
2) What has kept you coming back to Torque day after day?
I love how friendly all of the members are at this gym! I constantly switch between class times but at each and every class people take the time to catch up with me and cheer me on throughout the workouts.
3) What is your favorite thing about working out at Torque?
My favorite thing about Torque is the coaches dedication to individualizing everyone’s workout. Coach Amanda and Jake’s advice is the only reason I have seen success and pushed myself these past 6 months.
Also, I love that I don’t leave a single class without laughing at least once. The laughter subsides the torture.
4) What is your proudest accomplishment thus far?
My two proudest accomplishments are finally being able to do double-unders and kipping pull ups. I had never even attempted these movements before starting CrossFit and actually get excited when I see them on the whiteboard… even though I know my body will be aching for days afterward.
5) What has been your biggest challenge?
My biggest challenge has been getting over my fear of box jumps. I fell once when I first started CrossFit and still find myself second guessing myself before I jump.
6) What is your favorite CF movement to do?
Any sort of squats. It’s the only barbell movement that I don’t fear dropping on myself or hitting my collar bone if I fail when adding weight. It’s my favorite movement to try to always hit a new PR for.
7) What piece of advice would you give to someone who is looking to start CrossFit but hasn’t yet?
If you’re interested in lifting, just walk through the door and try a class. There are many misconceptions about the CrossFit environment. My mom, like most people, thinks CrossFit is loud and competitive with unmanageable workouts for beginners. Those misconceptions could not be farther from the truth. Come in with an open mind and you’ll find the community is worth joining!
